Blog Chain: Purple Prose Princess

It's blog chain time agan. Shaun started the last round of 2009 with this question:

What is the silliest thing from a book or short story you've written, and why? It can be a line or a paragraph or a whole page. Anything that you look back at and go, "Say what?"

Eric answered before me.

I think these opening paragraphs probably secure my spot on the throne in the Palace of Purple Prose. While you read, I’ll be in the corner, hiding my face in shame.

The book meant to teach peace, harmony and unity built a wall that separated Ezra Parker from the love of his life. He didn’t want to resent that which he had been raised to honor above everything else, but since breaking up with Koryn, a slow leak of bitter regret began contaminating the calm in his heart.

God was going to have to take the back seat for awhile.
After spending the past several years in the seminary preparing for a life of ministry, Ezra was going to follow his desires back to Koryn. They had spent so much time together. He loved her so unconditionally. He hoped she’d take him back.
They managed to put their beliefs, the tenets that established the core of their beings, aside in the past to be together. Even though the roots of their faith diverged at the stem, Ezra felt certain they could find some sort of compromise so they could be together. He was about to accept his first calling as a minister, and he wanted her to be there at his side.
But the tears that fell from Koryn’s eyes when he imparted his desires deceived Ezra. He thought they were tears of happiness.
“I’m not leaving Texas without you,” Ezra said.
Koryn’s vision cast downward to her feet. She sniffled, pulling her hands out of his strong grip to wipe the dampness from the tip of her nose. She didn’t return them to him, but instead placed them on her knees and pushed herself to a standing position. “Ezra, I …” she began with a clenched tone. With a deep breath, she ignored the heart-depth she wanted to say and allowed her words to merely graze the surface of her emotions.
“I haven’t even showered yet today.”

Why did I write this? I don't know.

Please, don't even ask, just quickly head over to Christine’s blog and put the ugliness you’ve found here out of your mind.

LOL! I love the line "God was going to have to take the back seat for a while". And yeah...this has got to be the most embarassing thing we've had to do for this chain...you know!

Maybe it's just because I like you so much, but I still see promise in some of the phrases. :-)

I love it. It's so serious and then..."I haven't even showered yet today." But it's quite real because this is the kind of stuff our minds come up with when we're stressed. Good job!

Sarah hit this on the head with that last line. It is so appropriate. This really isn't as bad as you think it is. Nice post.
