A word from someone's sponsor

Does anyone else think it's funny that:

The People of the United Methodist Church once sponsored the Discovery Channel's show "Most Evil?"

or

The A&E program "Obsessed," which follows the therapy of people suffering from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), is sponsored by Emerald Nuts?

Honestly. I've seen this with my own eyes. Heard it with my own ears.

Now I'd never poke fun at someone suffering from a debilitating mental disorder (hey, my husband is a bipolar recovering alcoholic, I know this stuff is serious), but a nut company sponsoring a show about mental disorders?

I mean, really? What are these sponsors trying to say?

These commercials and sponsorships make me wonder if the marketing departments planned it that way. Did they really know how that would look?

Did the people at San Spa know how peculiar it would sound when their commercial asks the question: "Do you -- or someone you love -- hate to bathe alone?"

(That one is a personal favorite of mine.)

Well, just in case it is planned, I have a few more sponsorship pairings and ad campaigns for executives to think about.

How about airing Dunkin' Donuts commercials during "The Biggest Loser?"

How about Budweiser sponsoring "Intervention?"

Ads for Trojan condoms during TLC's "A Baby Story?"

How about the Missouri Tourism Bureau using the slogan "Missouri Loves Company?"

I don't know. Maybe I'm out of line and just need to keep my day job.

gsuzfreek: yeah, those first two --honest Abe -- were real.

The Most Evil one I saw a couple years ago. I turned to my husband, thinking maybe I was just hallucinating or thinking something struck me as funnier than it really was. But Dana was sitting on the couch turning red, trying to hold in his laughter.

Obsessed, sponsored by Emerald Nuts, happened on Monday night. My daughter and I didn't even have to look at each other. We both just burst out laughing. The same way with the San Spa (they manufacture baths for elderly) commercial.

We always liked the fact that the grocery store Publix sponsored the petting zoo at the Atlanta Zoo. What do you think happened to those animals when they lost their petting charm?

Kat, you made me laugh out loud. Funny thing is I have seen all of the shows you mentioned, and never paid any attention to the commericals/sponsors.
